LakeLine 43-4: Lake Level

Description

This winter issue of LakeLine focuses on lake level change, and includes articles that discuss trends, monitoring technologies, as well as advances in applications to track lake level change over time that are increasingly becoming available to many. No matter where you are on the globe, lake level is an important topic, from season to season, year to year, and lake to lake, and having perspective on how that monitoring is done, and accessible methods on how to measure change is useful.

Lake level change is important for so many reasons. Is the water getting higher or lower, and why? How long will change last? Will change affect drinking water supplies, hydro-power generators, flood out nearby watershed areas, leave some homes or businesses high and dry or under water, impact irrigation networks, change water quality, or affect how we plan and implement scheduled drawdown events from season to season? The authors in this issue will discuss some of these questions, but this is an evolving topic that affects so many.
