President’s Message — May / June 2020
Perry Thomas, NALMS President
As the 2020 summer solstice passes, NALMS is responding to new challenges, while keeping an eye on the organization’s bottom line. So far, so good, thanks to teamwork by our staff, conference host committees, board, and larger membership.
The Minnesota Host Committee, co-chaired by Anne Wilkinson, Joe Bischoff, and Nancy Schuldt, navigated shifting winds of pandemic precautions during the spring and ultimately decided to postpone their face-to-face NALMS Symposium until 2022. Conference Committee co-chairs Dendy Lofton and Chris Doyle ...

NALMS Statement on Racism and Equality
Dear NALMS members and friends,

We will follow up next week with additional resources from NALMS. If anyone is interested in joining the Task Force or sharing ideas, feel free to reach out to me or to the Task Force ...
RESULTS: Lakes Appreciation Poster Contest
July has been Lakes Appreciation Month for the past 22 years. This spring, we invited elementary, middle, and high school students to submit posters reflecting on how important lakes are to all of us. Submitted artwork will be a big part of NALMS’ celebrations through July.
With nearly 60 entries, our volunteer judges had a tough job deciding our three winners (one per grade category). Entries were judged on creativity and originality, how well they represented Lakes Appreciation Month, and overall presentation. We are excited to share the results with you!
Thank ...
President’s Message — March/ April 2020
Perry Thomas, NALMS President
As April draws to a close, the executive committee can share a couple of silver linings found within the pandemic cloud. Before we do, though, we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to organizers of the 2020 Symposium in Minnesota. Together with them, we are in a holding pattern as we await input from NALMS members and the meeting venue regarding how best to proceed. By June 1, we all expect to know more about what will be possible, given the need to protect the health of all participants. Updates will be posted on the Symposium ...

What we know as of April 15, 2020
As the number of reported COVID-19 cases continues to increase across North America, NALMS’ staff and Executive Committee have received questions about the fate of the novel coronavirus in waterways. We are monitoring relevant research findings. So far, most of the information available is specific to drinking water and wastewater.
At this time, there is agreement in the public health community that the new coronavirus responds to the same kinds of washing and disinfection treatments used to combat related viruses, such as ...
