Submitted artwork will be a big part of NALMS’ celebrations through July. Due to the high quality of all the entries, our volunteer judges had a tough job deciding our three winners (one per grade category). Posters were judged on creativity and originality, how well they represented Lakes Appreciation Month, and overall presentation. We are excited to share the results with you! “Lakespert” – Life in lakes now includes moss balls

Steve Lundt, CLM There are three items on my career to-do list: be a guest on National Public Radio’s “Science Friday,” be invited to join a “think tank” about anything, and coin a term. If I can do all three, then I have done my part. So far in my 22-year career in lake and reservoir management, I have at least coined a term: “lakespert.” I will be sharing my experiences and thoughts on various hot topics that relate to the Lakeline theme. For this spring issue, “Life in Lakes” I would like to cover the topic of Marimo Balls, also known on the street as moss ball, Cladophora ball, lake goblin, lake roller, and lake ...

February is Black History Month

February is Black History Month! There are many reasons to celebrate the contributions made by Black entrepreneurs, politicians, activists, artists, and others during Black History Month, but since we are NALMS, we are focusing on those individuals who have contributed in the fields of limnology and aquatic science by highlighting their achievements. We will be using Black History Month as an opportunity to learn and reflect, as well as to celebrate and uplift Black ...

NALMS Celebrates 40th Birthday

Thank you for helping us get here ... it's NALMS 40th birthday! On this day 40 years ago (October 9, 1980), NALMS was founded in Portland, Maine as an organization with membership open to both professionals and citizens interested in applied lake management, while other organizations focused on either one or the other. This unique niche is reflected in our mission: to forge partnerships among citizens, scientists, and professionals to foster the management and protection of lakes and reservoirs ... for today and tomorrow. While it's an unusual year to be celebrating, we still want to take a moment to express our gratitude to our ...
