If a field trip meets its minimum attendee requirement by this date, registration will remain open through Friday, October 23rd. If it does not, the field trip may be canceled. Frind Estate Winery is one of the Okanagan’s premier wine destinations and North America’s first beachfront winery. Located on the shores of Okanagan Lake in West Kelowna, Frind Estate combines innovative technology with a rich agricultural heritage to produce award-winning wines. During the tour, participants will learn about the winery’s history, vineyard operations, winemaking process, and the advanced laboratory techniques used to support quality assurance and wine production. The visit will include a behind-the-scenes look at the winery laboratory, providing insight into grape and wine analysis, quality control procedures, and the science that underpins modern winemaking. The tour also includes a tasting of the wine!

Enjoy a 30 minute walk to Rose Valley Reservoir where you will learn more about the reservoir, 2023 wildfire damage and recovery and lake management impacts. The Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant is the largest infrastructure project in the history of the City of West Kelowna. This state-of-the-art facility provides clean, safe, and reliable drinking water to nearly 20,000 residents and represents a major investment in the community’s long-term water security. During the tour, participants will gain insight into the treatment processes used to convert source water from Rose Valley Reservoir into high-quality potable water. The facility utilizes advanced treatment technologies, including coagulation, dissolved air flotation, filtration, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, and chlorination to meet provincial drinking water standards and improve water quality throughout the distribution system. The tour provides a unique opportunity to explore modern water treatment infrastructure, discuss watershed and source water considerations, and gain a better understanding of the critical role that water treatment professionals play in safeguarding public health.
