Soil Health Partnerships in Oklahoma: Water Quality from Below the Ground Up
Wednesday, November 17, 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm | $25

Join us for a trip to the Campbell farm for a discussion and demonstration on the soil health movement in Oklahoma. Phil and his family returned to Oklahoma after a career in the US Air Force to farm and quickly became a leader in the conservation movement in Oklahoma and in support of underserved communities. Topics included in this field tour will include:

    • Discussion about the geology and history of Oklahoma and how that affects environmental conditions we are now faced with improving/measuring/assessing
    • Demonstration of the rainfall simulator and relationship between urban management and rural land management and the implications for runoff
    • Discussion/demonstration of a rotational grazing system and riparian livestock exclusion
    • WORMS: Soil health mobile application data collection, results and goals
    • Ongoing work to support underserved agricultural communities that also benefits natural resources.

Water Education Today: Exploring Water in Scissortail Park
Wednesday, November 17, Session 1: 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm, Session 2: 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm | $10

Join members of Oklahoma Blue Thumb and the NALMS JEDI Program as they facilitate Project WET activities for small groups in Scissortail Park, just west of the Convention Center across South Robinson Avenue. Rotate through stations along with local homeschooled students and their families as we introduce fun, safe, engaging explorations of aquatic ecosystems. If extreme weather prevents us from meeting outside, we will offer equivalent activities at a location to be announced. Registration limited to 10 individuals per session. Participation in the Monday afternoon workshop titled “Educating the next generation in as little as 20 minutes!” is encouraged but not required. Gather in the Omni Oklahoma City Hotel (specific location TBA) 10 minutes before departure to complete and sign a NALMS field trip form. We will depart on foot for Scissortail Park promptly at 1:30 pm for Session 1 and 3:30 pm for Session 2. Hats, gloves, warm layers, and sturdy footwear are recommended.
