The North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Our mission is to forge partnerships among citizens, scientists, and professionals to foster the management and protection of lakes and reservoirs for today and tomorrow. The goals of NALMS activities are to promote the exchange of information on aspects of managing lakes and their watersheds, promote public awareness of lake ecosystems, encourage public support for promoting management of lakes and their watersheds, provide guidance to agencies involved in management activities for lakes and their watersheds, boost the professional status of those engaged in managing lakes and their watersheds, and identify needs and encourage research on lake ecology and watershed management.
The Responsibilities of the Position
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, preparing and filing necessary reports.
- Provide documentation and support for internal and external audits as needed.
- Assist staff with reports related to the organization’s financials for the mid-term and annual reports to the Board of Directors.
- Utilize financial software (e.g., QuickBooks) to streamline bookkeeping processes and generate financial reports.
- Perform account receivable functions, including invoicing, deposits, collections, and revenue tracking.
- Manage data entry.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of company books and records.
- Ad hoc tasks.
The Qualifications We’re Looking For
- Minimum of three years of professional bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, or equivalent
- Proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ensure adherence to company policies and financial best practices
- US citizen or permanent resident
- Must pass a background check
Schedule: Average 15-20 hours per week; flexible work hours
Location: Fully remote
Bonus points
- Bachelors in Accounting is a plus but not required
- Certification in bookkeeping or accounting (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper designation)
