Fall Internship Opportunity with NALMS!
NALMS is accepting applications for a fall internship opportunity:
NALMS Branding & Communications Internship
Description: The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to assist in updating material presented across NALMS media outlets, including the primary website and socials.
The Branding and Communications Intern will work closely with the co-chairs of the NALMS ECO Committee as well as with the Director of Development and Marketing to survey existing internal and external communication materials of NALMS programs and assist in the development of new content for the NALMS website, social media, and email marketing.
Exemplary duties include surveying NALMS membership to gauge how to best support branding initiatives, designing physical material (flyers/swag/etc.) to support future NALMS outreach, and researching topics for the NALMS Blog and Lakespert column.
Alongside the production of media content to be used online in support of the NALMS brand, the primary deliverable of the internship will be creating content around the “Faces of NALMS”, interviewing and highlighting the stories of individual members, virtually and in person at the annual Symposium. Content may include short video interviews or written testimonials for NALMS social media, website, and email marketing.
Qualifications/skills/coursework:
Required qualifications include strong oral and written communication skills and interest in working with aquatic sciences education, communication and outreach programs. Desired qualifications include:
- Knowledge of limnology, water quality monitoring, natural resource conservation, or environmental education
- Interest in building or refining science communication skills for broad audiences, including translating technical information for broad audiences– such as creating blog posts highlighting LakeLine and Lake and Reservoir Management articles
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with attention to detail
- Experience with Adobe Suite and/or other editing software, used primarily for the creation of virtual media.
- Ability to travel internationally to British Columbia, Canada (current or soon to be passport/visa holder) to attend NALMS 2026 Annual Symposium in person.
Supervision: This position will be supervised by ECO Committee Co-chairs Ben Rhoades and Mikala L’Hote
Start and End Dates: Mid-September through mid-December, 2026; schedule is flexible
Total Hours: Approximately 20 hours/week for a total of ~15 weeks (300 hours).
Compensation: $20 USD/hour, plus complimentary registration and travel support for the 2026 NALMS Annual Symposium (November 3-6).
