NALMS Internship Opportunities

NALMS is accepting applications for two internship opportunities:

NALMS JEDI Program Internship

Description: The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to develop a webinar series targeting Spanish speaking lake users and managers.

The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) intern will work closely with the co-chairs of the NALMS JEDI Program as well as with Education, Communication, and Outreach (ECO) to develop communications resources and a webinar series targeting Spanish speaking lake users and managers. The intern will use established relationships with NALMS members to determine the messaging that is most impactful and beneficial to the target audience.

Additional duties include print advertising for the webinar series and adapting other communications to a Spanish speaking audience as time permits. Products of this internship will be a recorded series of three webinars, marketing information for the series, templates for advertising other NALMS events.

Qualifications/skills/coursework:
Required qualifications include strong oral and written communication skills and interest in working with community-based monitoring and science programs. Desired qualifications include:

  • Fluent Spanish speaker and writer
  • Must be resident of US due to banking regulations
  • Knowledge of limnology, water quality monitoring, natural resource conservation, or environmental education
  • Interest in building or refining science communication skills for broad audiences, including translating technical information for broad audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with attention to detail

Supervision: This position will be supervised by JEDI Program Co-chairs Mark Rosenkranz and Vini Taguchi, while working closely with the Education, Communication, and Outreach (ECO) Committee.

Start and End Dates: Mid-June through mid-November, 2025; schedule is flexible

Total Hours: Approximately half time for a total of 400 hours

Compensation: $20 USD/hour, plus complimentary registration for the 2025 NALMS Annual Symposium

NALMS Lake Science Education, Communications, and Outreach Internship

Description: The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to develop a webinar series targeting the needs of early career lake management professionals.

The Lake Science Education, Communications, and Outreach (ECO] intern will work closely with the co-chairs of the NALMS ECO Committee as well as with the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Program Intern to survey early career NALMS members about their needs and interests, develop a three-episode webinar series to launch in September 2025, and market the webinar series to early career professionals, including both current and prospective NALMS members.

Additional duties include producing content for NALMS’ social media, researching “hot topics” for the NALMS Lakespert column, and supporting communications related to Lakes Appreciation Month (July 2025).

Products of this internship will be not only a recorded series of three webinars but also a protocol for ECO Committee members to use in developing, producing, and directing future webinars.
