Oct 6 & 7: NALMS Policy/Science Communication Workshop

Over the last 30 years, water quality in U.S. lakes has significantly declined. The percentage of lakes with excessive nutrient pollution is growing at an alarming rate. EPA’s 319 program is one of the very few remaining sources of federal funding to address water quality issues in lake. But this program is at risk of losing funding, too.

Over the last several years, NALMS has been advocating in DC for changes to the 319 program to address the full suite of lake management needs, while working to safeguard and increase federal funding through the 319 program.

This virtual workshop will help NALMS members to better understand the federal legislative process, explore opportunities and best practices for policy engagement, and provide basic science communication training to more effectively engage on issues that are critical for maintaining and improving lake water quality in the U.S.
