The Lakes Program Manager leads the Vermont Lakes and Ponds Program within the Watershed Management Division of the VTDEC, including supervising a staff of limnologists and monitoring staff, lake restoration and invasive control efforts, and staff that provide technical and regulatory assistance to administer several different permitting programs including the state Shoreland Protection Act, Lake Encroachment Permits, Aquatic Nuisance Control Permits and the Water Quality Standards (401 certification) of ACOE dredge and fill permits.  The position represents the Lakes Program in legislative and intra- and inter-agency policy development, review, and implementation discussions and considerations. The Lakes Program Manager also provides leadership, oversight, and coordination for ongoing Program improvements, including rule and procedure updates, technical applications, professional training, public outreach, research, and administrative processes.

The Watershed Management Division is responsible for protecting, maintaining, enhancing and restoring the quality of Vermont’s surface water resources. Inherent in this effort is the support of both healthy ecosystems and public uses in and on Vermont’s 800 lakes and ponds, 23,000 miles of rivers and streams and 300,000 acres of wetlands.

Aside from expertise in lakes and ponds management, we’re also seeking candidates with strong skills in supervising staff, budget management, and project management.
