Job Summary
The Conservation Program Assistant (year-round, 40 hours per week) assists the Conservation Program Coordinator with the management of the organization’s existing conservation programming and with the development of new conservation programming to advance public awareness of and participation in the organization and its mission. This position is based at NH LAKES headquarters in Concord, New Hampshire, and involves the opportunity for statewide travel.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assists with the management of the Lake Host Program, an aquatic invasive species education and prevention program
- Assists with the management of the LakeSmart Program, an education, evaluation, and recognition program to promote lake-friendly living
- Assists with the development of new conservation programs and activities
- Represents NH LAKES at external events (lake association meetings, community events, professional meetings) during and outside of normal office hours (including evenings and weekends)
- Assists with training and providing guidance to seasonal staff, interns, volunteers, and program partners
- Works with the entire NH LAKES staff on collaborative projects and events
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency, including youth and adults, volunteers and seasonal employees, and academic, state agency, and business professionals
- Ability to effectively lead workshops and training sessions and develop outreach and training resources
- Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail
- Superior written, verbal, email, and telephone communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office and G Suite (Google Apps)
- Strong data management skills and advance knowledge of Excel and/or Google sheets
- Strong administrative and organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple shifting, changing and often conflicting priorities is essential
- Must be a team player and a willingness to work closely with all staff in a small office setting
- Willingness and ability to work early morning, evening, and weekends (with advance notice provided)
- Comfortable using social media for outreach and brand promotion
- Experience using ArcGIS and other ESRI applications for displaying and analyzing data preferred
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in natural resource management/conservation or education/environmental education
- At least 1 year of work experience in the field of natural resource conservation or management, education, or environmental education
- A working knowledge of lake ecology and best management practices for conserving lake health
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and provide training and support to partners, staff, and/or volunteers
- Ability to lift and carry bins weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances for various event needs
- Ability to work in an office setting
- Ability to work outside, sometimes under adverse conditions
- Ability to do field work involving walking properties
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile

- The starting pay rate for this position is $18 – $19 per hour.
