SUMMARY:Don’t Let Them Cut Your Tiny Little Wings: Bug Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Artist Eric Anthony Berdis\, invites all to celebrate the season with a bug making workshop in the Museum’s Frenzel Gallery from 11 to 3pm\, Sunday\, June 24th! Enjoy free admission to the museum.\nNo registration required! \nArtist Eric Anthony Berdis\, invites all to celebrate the season with a bug making workshop in the Museum’s Frenzel Gallery from 11 to 3pm\, Sunday\, June 24th!. Enjoy free admission to the museum\, get out of the heat\, and enjoy the amazing collection and featured exhibitions. \nDon’t Let Them Clip Your Tiny Little Insect Wings is a collaborative project Berdis started in 2018 connecting audiences to queer histories of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and Safe Zone Training that are touchstones in his practice. Eric uses the metaphor of the bug which are often seen as pest and unwanted\, and as a symbol of resilience and vital to the biodiversity of our earth. In the workshop participants are invited to create a bug as a symbol of Pride for themselves. \nEric Anthony Berdis is Erie Artist and Culture’s 2023 Lydia McCain Artist Fellow\, and a featured artist as a part of the 100th Annual Nicole and Harry Martin Spring Show in our Main Gallery. Select bugs from Eric’s past workshop are featured in the Spring Show exhibit. Workshop is free and for all-ages.

SUMMARY:SWS Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Wetland Adaptation\nfrom Floodplains to Ridgelines\nThe Society of Wetland Scientists will convene on June 27-30\, 2023 at the Davenport Grand Hotel in Spokane\, Washington to discuss this year’s topic: Wetland Adaption from Floodplains to Ridgelines. Please join us for a variety of industry lectures\, workshops and receptions with colleagues that will frame the conversation for the year to come!\nWe aim to provide a safe in-person event for scientists\, policymakers\, and practitioners to share their knowledge and gather ideas for the future of wetlands in an ever-evolving political landscape while continuing to advance the current focus on climate science. \nWe’d like to highlight how science can inform design\, how design can inform science\, and how to relay this information to regulators and policymakers to continue to protect vulnerable wetlands and other aquatic resources in the West\, across the US\, and all around the world. Our unique conference is a wonderful forum for collaboration from all sides of the world of wetlands. \nWe will have an amazing and diverse lineup of plenary speakers\, symposia\, and oral and poster presentations that will highlight coordination between different wetland sectors and disciplines while providing opportunities to collaborate on related topics like: \nIndigenous or tribal interests for restoring native ecosystems to build resilience\nRestoring or managing ecosystems to meet subsistence or cultural objectives\nTackling climate change\nWater resource management\nSoil carbon sequestration\nCurrent approaches used for wetland education and outreach\nand more!\nA variety of networking events will be hosted throughout the week and the conference itself is a block from the beautiful Spokane River and its Riverfront Park (one of the country’s best urban parks).
