DESCRIPTION:Join us in the heart of downtown Providence for your next phycological adventure! The PSA2023 meeting will convene – in-person – at the Graduate Providence\, formerly the Biltmore\, located within walking distance to numerous restaurants and local entertainment. Please plan to arrive on Sunday\, June 25th for the Welcoming Mixer at 6 PM and depart Friday\, June 30th – we have a week of phycological excitement that you will not want to miss!! \nScientific Program \nThe theme of this year’s meeting is Phycology in a Changing Climate: Diversity\, Blooms\, and Beyond. The program will consist of daily plenary talks from leading scientists in the field of algal monitoring and conservation. We will also have the Bold Award Competition\, IDEA Symposium\, Student Symposium\, Lang Lecture\, poster sessions (including the Lewin Award Competition)\, lightning talks\, contributed sessions\, and the engaging annual PSA auction. We will conclude the meeting on Thursday evening with the PSA Awards Banquet in the Biltmore Ballroom. \nThis year\, we are sponsoring an Early Career Breakfast\, IDEA Lunch and Discussion\, and tantalizing your tastebuds for the PSA Business Meeting. Please be sure to check “attending” on your registration form so we may get an accurate headcount for these events. \nAlso\, there are several exciting weekend workshops on seaweed collection and identification\, producing publication-quality scientific figures\, inclusivity in teaching\, as well as an aquaculture tour and oyster social at Roger Williams University. DESCRIPTION:Wetland Adaptation\nfrom Floodplains to Ridgelines\nThe Society of Wetland Scientists will convene on June 27-30\, 2023 at the Davenport Grand Hotel in Spokane\, Washington to discuss this year’s topic: Wetland Adaption from Floodplains to Ridgelines. Please join us for a variety of industry lectures\, workshops and receptions with colleagues that will frame the conversation for the year to come!\nWe aim to provide a safe in-person event for scientists\, policymakers\, and practitioners to share their knowledge and gather ideas for the future of wetlands in an ever-evolving political landscape while continuing to advance the current focus on climate science. \nWe’d like to highlight how science can inform design\, how design can inform science\, and how to relay this information to regulators and policymakers to continue to protect vulnerable wetlands and other aquatic resources in the West\, across the US\, and all around the world. Our unique conference is a wonderful forum for collaboration from all sides of the world of wetlands. \nWe will have an amazing and diverse lineup of plenary speakers\, symposia\, and oral and poster presentations that will highlight coordination between different wetland sectors and disciplines while providing opportunities to collaborate on related topics like: \nIndigenous or tribal interests for restoring native ecosystems to build resilience\nRestoring or managing ecosystems to meet subsistence or cultural objectives\nTackling climate change\nWater resource management\nSoil carbon sequestration\nCurrent approaches used for wetland education and outreach\nand more!\nA variety of networking events will be hosted throughout the week and the conference itself is a block from the beautiful Spokane River and its Riverfront Park (one of the country’s best urban parks).
