DESCRIPTION:ATTENTION:  $500 SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO QUALIFIED STUDENTS!\nThe Indiana Lakes Management Society (ILMS) is pleased to announce that financial assistance is available through the ILMS Scholarship Donation/Silent Auction Fund to help meet the college tuition needs of two applicants for the 2021-2022 academic year. \nWho is eligible? \n\nStudents who are currently enrolled (or planning to enroll) in Environmental Science\, Aquatic Ecosystem or Watershed Management\, or related undergraduate or graduate college-level classes. \nStudents who are attending an Indiana college or university.\nScholarship funds will be awarded preferentially to those applicants who are planning to take classes related to aquatic ecosystems\, but other classes may also qualify\, especially if they are core classes of an Associate’s\, Bachelor’s\, or Master’s Degree program in Biology\, Chemistry\, Environmental Science\, Natural Resources\, Fisheries\, or Aquatic Resource Management.\n\nHow to apply: \nFill out this survey\, which includes links to upload a pdf copy of your resume and brief letter of interest containing at a minimum the following: \n\nName and contact information\nScholastic honors or merit awards obtained (e.g.\, Dean’s List)\nCourse work for which scholarship funds are requested\nA description of how this course work relates to the ILMS purpose and objectives (see below)\nCareer objectives\, past experience in aquatic-related natural resource management employment or volunteerism\, and community service.\n\nTimeline: Application letters must be received no later than October 4th\, 2021.  \nApplications will be evaluated based on the letter of interest and GPA. Potential scholarship recipients may be required to schedule a brief committee interview on or after October 4th\, 2021. Scholarships will be awarded\, and students notified shortly thereafter. Scholarship Funds will be distributed in time to meet tuition needs for the Spring 2022 Semester. Students will also be granted an ILMS membership and registration fee\, travel and lodging stipend for the 2022 ILMS Annual Conference April 7th and 8th\, 2022 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth. SUMMARY:OLA Fall Seminar Series Abstracts Due
DESCRIPTION:Oregon Lakes Association Fall 2021 Online Seminar Series \nCall for Abstracts \nAbstract submittal for oral and poster presentations is now open for OLAs Fall 2021 Online Seminar Series. Conference sessions held via Zoom during the Wednesday afternoons of Oct 27\, Nov 3\, and Nov 12\, will be approximately 1.5 hours long\, and will include 3-5 presentations each. Additional session dates may be added depending on the volume of abstract submissions. The Oct 27 session will include five-minute flash presentations by poster presenters. \nTopics of interest that deal directly or indirectly with lakes include: \n\nwater quality and harmful algal blooms\necological interactions\neffects of climate change  \nlake and watershed restoration\naquatic invasive species\nand any other lake\, pond or reservoir related topic\n\nSubmission Requirements: \nSubmit abstracts online by August 1\, 2021. Include your presentation title\, author(s) noting any student authors\, preference of an oral or poster presentation\, and an abstract of 300 words/3\,000 characters or less. Oral presentations via Zoom will be up to 20 minutes long. Online poster presentations will be available as pdfs during the entirety of the seminar series and authors will also present five minute speed talks summarizing their posters. Presenters and OLA Members will receive free registration for the seminar series. A nominal registration fee will be charged to non-members.

SUMMARY:ALMS Scholarship Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:Aquatic sciences form the basis of the sound management of lakes and their watersheds. ALMS has created a scholarship to encourage and support students in disciplines related to lake or watershed management. Full time senior undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at Canadian universities or colleges are eligible to apply. The scholarship is intended to support students in the aquatic sciences\, and related disciplines\, and promote the objectives of the Alberta Lake Management Society (ALMS). The amount offered is $2000 Canadian.\n \nA scholarship review committee appointed by the Board of Directors will review applications and award the scholarship. A combination of the following factors will be considered: academic achievement\, major field of study\, a statement of career goals\, and relevance of the course of study to the objectives of ALMS. \nThe recipient will be expected to address the Annual General Meeting in the fall to present a progress report on research undertaken\, or another topic of mutual interest. SUMMARY:WALPA Student Scholarship Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, the Washington Lakes Protection Association will offer three student scholarships. \n\nThe Nancy Weller Memorial Scholarship for a Ph.D. graduate student for $1\,250.\nThe Dave Lamb Memorial Scholarship for a M.Sc. graduate student for $1\,000.\nThe WALPA scholarship to an undergraduate student for $500.\n\nApplications are due by 17:00 PDT on May 15\, 2021. \nAll three scholarships will also provide funds to cover registration and two nights’ accommodation for each recipient at the annual meeting. \nStudent scholarships will be awarded to further our understanding of the limnology\, hydrology\, ecology\, management\, and restoration of lakes in Washington and Idaho. Applicants must be part- or full-time undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited college or university in Washington or Idaho. Recipients shall use scholarship funds to cover expenses directly related to their research. Students are expected to attend the annual conference to present their research findings and interact with WALPA members. \nAll scholarship applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee\, with members from academia\, industry\, and government. Committee members who have a personal or institutional affiliation with an applicant will not judge applicants. Student scholarship winners will be selected based on the quality of their research topic\, its significance to lake science as described above\, its relevance to the applicant’s interests and career goals\, and adherence to application directions below. \nStudent applicants must provide the following three items:  \n\nA statement of research interests and career goals (maximum of 3 pages). The statement must explain why the proposed research is important to the field of limnology and/or lake management and include an itemized budget and budget justification that explains the intended use of the scholarship funds.\nA 1-2 page resume.\nRecent transcripts of all college/university course work (official copies not required).\n\nA letter of recommendation from the student’s academic advisor should be sent as a PDF file directly to the committee chair. \nAll applicants should send materials in a single Adobe Acrobat PDF file clearly identified by the applicant’s last name to Mark Sytsma\, chair of the Scholarship Committee\, at mark.sytsma@pdx.edu. Applications are due by 17:00 PDT on May 15\, 2021. The Scholarship Committee will contact applicants in early June to let them know their application’s status.

DESCRIPTION:Please save the date for the annual ILMS conference.  As a result of the current pandemic we have decided to move to a fully virtual conference this year. \nThe theme for this year is: \nLake and Watershed Resiliency in Changing Times \nOur online event will be held April 8th and 9th\, 2021.  We are currently accepting abstracts for presentations for the event.  We will update you with more details as we continue our planning. \nHelp us celebrate 33 years of Indiana Lakes Management! The Indiana Lakes Management Society is seeking abstracts for presentations at the 32nd Annual Indiana Lakes Management Annual Conference and our first virtual conference.  The conference will be held April 8th and 9th\, 2021 online. DESCRIPTION:The six-week self-paced online course runs January 19 – March 26\, 2021 and is designed for anyone interested in inland lakes\, including lakefront property owners and lake managers. Course topics include lake ecology\, watershed management\, shoreline protection\, Michigan water law\, aquatic plants and community engagement. The course consists of video lectures\, interactive activities\, discussion forums\, resources and live Ask-an-Expert webinars featuring Michigan State University Extension educators and experts from outside organizations. Registration is open now through January 14\, 2021. The cost of the course is $115 per person. Register by December 28\, 2020 for an early bird price of $95 per person.
