Exempt or Non-Exempt Position: Exempt
Basic Functions: The Fish and Wildlife Biologist performs journey-level biologist duties under the general supervision of the Resident Fisheries Hatchery Manager III.  Duties include independently conducting professional biological studies or research and providing analysis and assessment of fish and habitat data.  This position assists in managing a variety of moderately complex programs and projects including habitat monitoring and restoration, ecological studies and population studies.  The Fish and Wildlife Biologist gathers and analyzes data for Reservation lakes and streams and conducts hydro-acoustic, gill-netting, electro-fishing and creel studies.  The incumbent also serves on a multiple inter-disciplinary team to assist in managing key projects designed to protect and restore critical fish and wildlife habitat to sustain and enhance Tribal recreational, ceremonial and subsistence fisheries.  This is an exempt position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Training:
- A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the applicable science AND 12 months of required experience; OR
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in fisheries, natural resources science, or environmental science AND 36 months experience at the Biologist I or equivalent level related to fish management, fish research, habitat management, or habitat research
- Must submit college transcripts
- Must be in good physical condition to be able to work and hike in inclement weather conditions and over variable and rugged terrain
- Must be able to work variable hours, long days, early mornings, holidays, and weekends as the work dictates
- Must be able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
- Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License and be eligible for the Tribes vehicle insurance
- Must successfully clear Criminal Background Checks and maintain throughout duration of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of methods and practices of habitat and habitat management techniques for fish and wildlife
- Knowledge of environmental regulation principles and procedures as they apply to fish, wildlife or habitat, biological research, fish culture, and fish management; standard laboratory and field methods and statistical data processing relating to fisheries
- Knowledge of including fish species, their habits and life histories, factors influencing the capacity of water bodies to sustain fish populations, hatchery operations and treatments for common fish diseases and parasites, fish collection and spawning procedures and fishing regulations
- Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively including the ability to synthesize research findings and formulate fish management recommendations for a variety of audiences
- Ability to organize, schedule and implement fish research or management studies, including the ability to coordinate, lead or supervise technical or nontechnical volunteer or staff in performing variety of outdoor work tasks in inclement weather
- Ability to apply research and statistical methods and techniques to project or program including the use of microcomputers for routine data analysis and word processing tasks
- Ability to gain cooperation of interested groups or landowners in Department fish management programs
- Ability to manage and maintain Departmental physical assets including land holdings, buildings, and equipment
- Ability to supervise technical and nontechnical volunteers or staff and perform a variety of outdoor work in inclement weather
- Ability to analyze environmental information, prepares written reports and recommendations, deliver oral presentations and interpret environmental regulation and related laws

Basic Function
s: This is an exempt position. This position will be responsible for maintaining or improving habitat conditions favorable for the sustainability of anadromous salmonids in Omak Creek and Salmon Creek.  The position will focus on sources or actions that diminish the quality and quantity of habitat which supports anadromous salmonids.  The position will also be responsible for administrative documents (i.e. budgets, scope of work, requests for proposals, permits, etc.).  This position will require working collaboratively with other resource managers (i.e. Range, Forestry, etc), stakeholders (irrigation district managers, private landowners, etc.) and local government (city and county) to develop and implement projects which rehabilitate habitat.

Education and Training:
Fish & Wildlife Biologist l
- A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the applicable science; OR
- A Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, natural resources science, or environmental science AND twelve (12) months experience in fish management, fish research, habitat management, or habitat research

- A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the applicable science AND twelve (12) months required experience; OR
- A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in fisheries, natural resources science, or environmental science AND thirty six (36) months experience at the Biologist l or equivalent level related to fish management, fish research, habitat management, or habitat research
Biologist I and II
- Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment
- Must be able to work variable hours, long days, early mornings, holidays, and weekends as the work dictates

- Must be willing to consent to criminal history clearance

Summary of Position (general responsibility and purpose): The primary duties include providing hydrology and hydraulics technical expertise for the water resources aspects of projects, hydrology and hydraulics business development, staff mentoring, and being responsible for client interaction. The successful candidate will interact with multidisciplinary teams of planners, environmental specialists, and engineers on projects.
Educational/Skill/Specialization Requirements: BS in Hydrology or related field required. MS/MA in hydrology or related field and registration as a professional engineer preferred. Experience in Alaska projects including public infrastructure projects required. 10+ years of experience with hydraulic/hydrologic investigations and calculations, with experience in project management required. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have strong writing and communication skills. Demonstrated working skills with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The successful candidate will work on projects involving hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources, as well as participate on interdisciplinary teams for impact assessment and issues identification and resolution. Project work will entail data collection, analysis, technical report writing and reporting, as well as data management. They will lead hydrology and hydraulics / water resources business development efforts by developing and implementing marketing strategies and supporting proposal pursuits. Technical mentoring of junior staff will be an essential function of the successful candidate. Maintains a close and highly responsive relationship with the supervisor, project managers, and staff.  Works independently, uses judgment and initiative to determine the approach or action to take in non-routine situations. An individual should be able to function in stressful, intense situations and still be able to perform with accuracy. Problem-solving ability and organizational skills are required. Works cooperatively with other employees to achieve the company’s mission, vision, and values.
